Magnetic Resonance Force Microscopy:
A Brief Summary

A schematic illustration of MRFM

In Magnetic Resonance Force Microscopy (MRFM), a sample is mounted on a flexible cantilever and positioned near a magnetic tip, which produces an inhomogeneous magnetic field. The RF coil excites a small fraction of the sample which satisfies the NMR condition, modulating the force between the sample and tip, which is measured by detecting sample deflections with the interferometer.
